SelectivePrep Academic Center Program
Attention 5th Grade Parents: Registration for our March 2016 classes to prepare for the 5th grade MAP test is NOW OPEN!
SelectivePrep offers the only classroom program in Chicago to help students prepare for the Academic Center Admissions test. The Admissions Test is an aptitude test containing unusual problems that assess your child’s ability to recognize figural, quantitative and verbal relationships. This test is one third of the score required for admissions to an Academic Center.
Registration for our fall 2015 classes to prepare for the Academic Center Admissions Test (6th graders) has concluded. We will start registration for next year’s Academic Center Admissions Test program in April 2016. Click here to contact us if you have any questions.
Program Overview
With the SelectivePrep Program, students prepare for the Academic Center Admissions Test in an intensive, structured classroom setting with one of our expert instructors. The SelectivePrep Program starts with a diagnostic test to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. Students will have access to supplemental material so they can practice in areas where they need the most improvement. Students also take a practice test under test conditions just before they take “the real thing”.
The SelectivePrep Program:
- Is offered on weekends at convenient locations or after school at local elementary schools
- Is 6 or 4 weeks long; 14 hours of classroom time
- Includes a Study Guide with extensive review material
- Limits class size to twenty students
- Provides parents with regular updates on student progress

Test Timing
CPS does not publish an official list of Academic Center test dates. Most students take the Academic Center Admissions Test in January and February at a centralized testing site — though testing can start as early as mid to late November.
SelectivePrep 5th Grade NWEA/MAP Program
In addition to our program to prepare for the Academic Center Admissions Test for 6th graders we also offer a program for 5th graders to prepare for the 5th Grade MAP Test since this test is one third of the Academic Center admissions score.
With its adoption by over 40 states, the Common Core has become a defacto national assessment standard. In 2016, all Chicago students, both public and private will take a 100% Common Core compliant assessment.
The NWEA/MAP test will be used for the 5th grade standardized test in the admissions formula. The end of year (May 2016) MAP test is the one that will count for admissions purposes even if your child’s school administers this test several times a year.
To fully prepare students for this more rigorous test, SelectivePrep has incorporated material based on these new tougher Common Core standards into its curriculum and program materials.
Registration for our Spring 2016 classes to prepare for the 5th grade MAP test is NOW OPEN! Classes start in March 2016.
