SelectivePrep Spring Algebra Program

SelectivePrep offers an intensive, structured algebra review program that not only helps prepare students for the Algebra Exit Exam but also improves algebra competency in preparation for higher level math courses in high school and beyond.

Who: Recommended for incoming 8th graders who would like to excel and incoming 9th graders seeking to solidify their grasp of the topic.

Algebra Program Benefits

Only 50% of Chicago students pass the Algebra Exit Exam. ALL Selective Enrollment High Schools MUST allow a student who passes the Exam to place out of Algebra I.

Sharpened algebra skills will help students taking any of the various high school math placement tests.

Access to AP classes. Students who achieve a “pass” or “high pass” on the CPS (Chicago Public School) Algebra Exit Exam will have the opportunity to pursue AP (Advanced Placement) Calculus or AP Statistics. Most students who take Algebra I in high school may NOT be able to participate in AP classes later. AP classes better prepare students for college and students who perform well on the AP test can earn college credit.

Increased algebra competency. Mastery of algebra concepts will better prepare students for high school and college math.

Enrichment. Younger students already proficient in pre-algebra concepts but seeking challenge will gain from an early exposure to critical algebra concepts. In fact, the Algebra Exit Exam administered by CPS is taken by both 7th and 8th graders.
